Office 2007 的 Word 文档格式为 Microsoft Open Office XML Format (.docx)，这种格式不被老版本的 Office 兼容。要查看该类型的文档，你需要安装Office 2007（如果这是一种选项的话），或者安装 Office 2007 Compatibility Pack for Windows。
如果你手头有个docx格式的文档，并且你仅仅对它的文本内容感兴趣，你可以使用http://docx-converter.com/这个网站，它提供抽取docx文档文本内容的在线服务。虽然只能抽取文本，功能稍显弱了点，但总比读不出来要强。
题外话：在WPS工作的两年中，有一半的时间是跟MS Office文档格式、UFO格式标准及OpenOffice文档格式打交道。国内办公软件厂家（金山，永中，中文2000等）长期以来都以兼容MS Office的格式、排版及UI为第一要务。现在MS Office的界面有了颠覆性的改变，默认文档也使用了基于XML的…x格式，在协同办办工上更是把其他厂家远远落在了后面。兼容的口号在一定程度上不再成为借口，不知道WPS和永中Office等办公软件的路该怎么走。

Writely nicely supports E-mailing documents. To use it, click E-mail In, on the opened page you will see an e-mail address which is unique to you.
Now write and send something to this address using your favorite mail tool(for me it is surely Gmail). The mail subject will be the title of the document and the body will be the content of the document.
You can also attach any supported documents to the email, which will be converted to separate Writely documents.
One thing you should notice is that if you add the unique address as a contact of your Gmail account, when you send anything to it use the “nickname”, you will receive an error message from Gmail’s delivery system:
This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification
Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:
youruniqueaddresshere@prod.writely.com
Upset huh? Why can’t I send to Writely using my Gmail. Google has purchased Writely!
Don’t worry. It seems to be odd but you have to put the pure address into the “To” filed, not the friendly Writely yournuiqueaddreesshere@prod.writely.com form. Now try again and you will receive the Writely confirmation mail before long.

传统的桌面软件、特别是微软的许多软件，倾向于大量使用弹出式对话框（Modal dialog），典型代表是 Office 系列。在 Office 中，这样的对话框主要分为两类，一类是属性对话框，另一类是错误信息对话框。
属性对话框是 Office 系列一大特色，这一特色与 Dreamweaver 的面板形成鲜明的对比。当年初学 HTML 和 Web Design 时，就是因为超喜欢 DW 的面板而对 FrontPage 不屑一顾，才没有沉沦到对那些自动生成的垃圾代码的依赖中去。在 Office 2007 Beta 中，ribbon 和 galleries 的出现，使属性对话框的角色充分淡化。这种新的 UI，我非常喜欢。其实在 Office 2003 中，taskpane 已经是一个不小的改善，但 taskpane 的切换还是略显麻烦及不直观。
但微软似乎仍然对弹出式错误对话框情有独衷。用 Outlook 2007 Beta 回复一封邮件时，我切换到 Insert，尝试去发掘一下有什么新的好玩意，没想到欢迎我的是一个不停弹出的错误框，告诉我 Clip Art 没有安装。（如下图，点击图片察看完整大小图片）
最终，我不得不在任务管理器中杀死 Outlook 的进程以结束这段不愉快的探索。
很多网站也喜欢使用弹出式对话框来提示用户特定的信息。在“上世纪末及本世纪初”，貌似 95％ 以上的网站设计师们只会使用 window.alert 来向访问者提供反馈。后来随着 DHTML 动态网页的流行，这种现象有所缓解。这两年，Ajax 的横空出世，彻底冲击了这种作法。我们看到大量的网站使用无刷新的不会阻断用户操作的方式，对用户进行操作提示。
但是对于整个 Internet 来说，这些“大量”的网站，其实只占了一小部分。对于访问者，我们还是会不时地与弹出对话框亲密接触。比方说，如果你使用 Firefox 来访问 QZone，你会获得与上面提到的 Outlook 一样的不爽体验：
要命的是，点N下这个对话框的 OK 按钮，它还是精力十足地继续弹着。不具备我那份坚韧不拔的顽固劲的用户，说不定就只能把 Firefox 杀掉，同时把那些无辜的 Tab 一并干掉。世界并不完美，我们不得不忍受这样的不可用体验。

从所周知，在一段文字上双击，MS Word会选中当前单词(word)或中文词语(中文断词)；可爱的用户比较少用的另一个操作是连击三次鼠标，用以选中当前整段文字。
WPS 2005目前不支持该操作。
另外，WPS的中文断词功能似乎比较弱，双击是断到最近的一个空格为止，而中文一段中往往不大会有空格出现，所以在该种情况下双击会选中整个中文段落。

9月12日，WPS Office 2005个人版发布。金山在100天内提供免费下载（需注册金山通行证），同时提供仅售￥20元的光盘版。
对于微软在软件界面、用户体验及易操作性上的创新能力，我持乐观态度。拥抱变化！
当然，会有很多用户由于“习惯”力量或基于TCO的考量，可能会抵制这种变化。
WPS仍需努力，前面的路还很长。

WPS Office 2005 (V6) is about to release, huh, very soon. Some WPS guys have announced this news:

I’m happy to hear this ’cause as a former employee of WPS, I also made a little contribution to this project(where there is me, there are bugs!).
Being an office suite, WPS Office 2005’s fundamental goal is to smoothly provide the functionalities that MS Office provides - similar design, similar UI, similar operations, similar … To achieve this, WPS Office 2005 is going to show the best file-format-compatibility. [Plz keep in mind that this is not official announcement, but my personal understanding.]
I was impressed with WPS Office 2005’s ability to export document to PDF format file. I strongely recommend to make this as a component and sell it.
I think in many cases in my daily life, I can use WPS Office 2005 to do my office work. I have to admit that WPS lacks some great features that MS Office has, but who cares, especially when you don’t need those features very often?
Hope I can get a full pack WPS Office 2005 when it’s released.

主要内容是，Office12中XML文件格式将成为缺省格式，Word、PowerPoint、Excel这三个应用都会有完整的XML格式支持。MS还承诺提供Patch供老版本Office使用该格式。
对于其他开发商（者）使用这种格式的问题，人家说道：

However, the ability of other technology providers to use the new file format to integrate their solutions with the Microsoft Office System is an important and frequently requested capability by the industry. We feel it’s to everyone’s advantage to respond. Customers also know that the true value of a desktop application is not the format in which data is stored but the full breadth of capabilities offered by that application, along with the quality and security of the user experience that it provides.
我注意到Format前面的Open修饰。这很微妙，因为MS的这个格式是有版权和专利的。不过人家的宣传中说的是Open and Royalty-Free Formats。
MS这么做，当然不单单是文件格式的变迁这么简单，我想更多的应该是出于协同处理和数据管理方面的考虑（Office12里SmartDocument应该会变得更牛吧）。当国内办公厂家还在为格式兼容问题头痛脑胀时，人家已经在很多方面Create the Future了。
