WPS Office 2005 (V6) is about to release, huh, very soon. Some WPS guys have announced this news:

And here’s the way to access the easter egg which shows you a credits of devs:

I’m happy to hear this ’cause as a former employee of WPS, I also made a little contribution to this project(where there is me, there are bugs!).
Being an office suite, WPS Office 2005’s fundamental goal is to smoothly provide the functionalities that MS Office provides - similar design, similar UI, similar operations, similar … To achieve this, WPS Office 2005 is going to show the best file-format-compatibility.  [Plz keep in mind that this is not official announcement, but my personal understanding.]
I was impressed with WPS Office 2005’s ability to export document to PDF format file. I strongely recommend to make this as a component and sell it.
I think in many cases in my daily life, I can use WPS Office 2005 to do my office work. I have to admit that WPS lacks some great features that MS Office has, but who cares, especially when you don’t need those features very often?
Hope I can get a full pack WPS Office 2005 when it’s released.

Buy, don't invent

Aug 23, 2005

Don’t re-invent the wheel has long been a principle of software making. But apparently engineers from all over the world don’t listen to this much. Most programmers are smart, brave, and over optimistic. They’re always ready to challenge their limitations.

In 2003 and 2004, I saw many components developed from scratch. Some talents designed and implemented them. Being clients, other talents used them as public service modules. These components were absolutely great. But just like any other two-edged sword, sometimes these components made people crazy: buggy, hard to use, lacked documents, and their interfaces changed TOO frequently.
In such situation, a huge amount of money, time, and energy were spent. The project was thrown into chaos. More and more firemen were needed to rescue. Developers had been dead tired, angry and annoyed for a long period. Complaining, the more they coded, the more bugs were born. Extra time had been a basic need of life.
I believe now some needs would have been met if they had decided to BUY certain components. That would cost less. Those guys could pay more attention to what they had to do. There would be no lack of labor problem. People would be happier. The product would be released earlier, maybe ahead of deadline.
But you know, I’m obviously too optimistic about this!

Gmail server error

Gmail gave me a polite message when I tried to check my inbox:

Gmail is temporarily unavailable. Cross your fingers and try again in a few minutes. We’re sorry for the inconvenience.

So I had a glass of water then re-tried. It’d been OK again! As usual, some damn junk mails were bold waiting for me to move them to trash. I had sent two personal messages for the last couple of weeks but got no response. Sad.

Weekend now, mail me if you’re free^-^

Season Square

Aug 3, 2005

The Season Square is a good place, where people shop, eat, skate and dance. I was happy to hear that it’s very near today so I took a walk there in the evening. I found a book store next to the shopping mall. It’s cool! But I was a little surprised at the fact that there weren’t any skate-boarders at such a great big square.
